Cycling through History: Great Allegheny Passage - C&O Canal Towpath, October 2020

2020 has definitely been a strange year, but we did get in one long-planned trip. The Great Allegheny Passage (GAP) and C&O Canal Towpath comprise a traffic-free bike/hike path from Pittsburgh to Washington, DC. It passes through former mining towns, transportation history (railroads, canals, highways), an early fort (French and Indian War, Revolutionary War), and Civil War battles and subterfuge. The engineering challenges provided by both the railroad and the canal were substantial.

Golden Triangle Bike helped us with arrangements for lodging and planning.

It's already on my blog, so here are the links:

1 - Pittsburgh to West Newton

2 - West Newton to Ohiopyle

  3 - Ohiopyle to Meyersdale

  4 - Meyersdale to Cumberland

5 - Cumberland to Little Orleans

6 - Little Orleans to Williamsport

7 - Williamsport to Harpers Ferry

  8 - Harpers Ferry to White's Ferry

9 - White's Ferry to Georgetown (Washington, DC)
